Microsoft Word is the go to icon on a computer.  We always use it in school.  Ive used it to write papers, design flyers, randomly doodle and even to make charts and graphs.  Its something that is super useful and easy to use.  Many of the assignments teachers use to give us were designed off of Microsoft.  Sometimes teachers use Microsoft for in class discussions to record all the data from the class.  In elementary school we learned exactly how to use Microsoft and all the things we could use it for.  The possibilities are endless!!  As I've grown up its still been used.  Ive used it to write essays, make resumes and make multiple designs needed for jobs.  I love the fact that we have a program that allows us to do so much.
Copyright and fair use of materials is not something most students tend to look up and learn about.  Yes we are taught not to copy other peoples work without proper citation however we never learn about the different levels and intrict aspects.  As a teacher I would make sure I teach my kids the proper way to cite and use information from the internet.  Its so easy for people nowadays to copy information without knowing.  We now have different apps that can check information especially for plagiarism.  In terms of fair use, it has stated very clearly that we can copy work for educational reasons.  I think its great that it allows us to help advanced our teaching ability, it just also can be kinda difficult.  Being a teacher means you need to not only educate your students but also yourself.  Learning about copyright fair can really help you understand the rules and make sure you are always following them!
There are so many different types of implementation issues that could occur. Three really big issues to me would be 1. cyberbullying, 2. academic honesty, and 3. observing copyrights.  I feel cyberbullying is a huge issue because of the excessive use of the internet.  To monitor this we can have no social media usage while in school and keep strict rules on posts between students.  For observing copyright, we need to teach our students about copyright laws and citing.  Many kids think copying work is the same as using work and citing it.  We need to show exactly how to cite a piece of work and when its appropriate.  And last but not least academic honesty.  With online testing the option for cheating is very easy.  We need to train students to value what there learning over getting the grade they desire.  You won't learn by cheating, only by understanding the material present.  This chapter taught me all about works protected by copyright, implementation issues, legal, ethical and social issues, even the ten commandments of computer ethics.  This was a very eye opening chapter just to see all the " rules" of the computer and learn exactly how to obey them!

  1. I am glad you found the reading "eye-opening". It is important to understand and keep up with the issues related to Fair Use and copyright, both as educators and life-long learners.

The " Flipped Classroom" is a very interesting and useful concept for students of all ages.  It allows students to watch videos to help prepare them for class the following day.  Class will then be spent answering any questions you may have pertaining to the video.  This allows students to learn not only from the teacher but also another source.  It limits the amount of talking the teacher has to do and allows for more questions to be asked.  It also allows for more classroom time to be used for more productive things.  Its a very cool because teachers have a choice between using videos from an already given site such as khan academy or, make there own videos.  A teacher is able to personalize these videos for his or her teaching them exactly what they want to teach them as appose to them retaining information they don't need to know.  This is also a great thing for students who miss class because it allows them to stay up to date without being th...

Technology and teacher professional development

I learnt that there are so many different websites that can help with professional development.  We were able to see websites that were specific to certain grades and some that were open to all grades.  Its amazing to see how many resources teachers, students, and even parents have. By viewing the bookmarks and annotations of others I was able to see all the different website that could be used for professional development.  Things such as linkedin, discovery education, even crayola.  There were a lot of opportunities for help that I may not have noticed if someone didn't comment on or bookmark them!

Resource Critique Activity

I decided to research 4th grade work!  I came across standard   LAFS.4.RI.3.7.  This standard is all about interpreting information not presented necessarily in a traditional way.  It shows information in terms of charts, diagrams, interactive videos etc.  We use these tools so we can then compare to our text information and see exactly how it has helped us arrive to our answer.  I chose to study an example of an activity.  Its labeled as c.014 comprehension, expository text structure and text feature find.  The purpose of the activity is almost like a scavenger hunt.  You will need a book and the worksheet.  The worksheet is set up as a chart and has different things it wants you to look for.  You then go into the book and search for each example and then right yes or no in the chart if you found it.  The examples range from bar charts, to table of content, and even a glossary.  Its suppose to help you familiarize yoursel...
